Welcome to South Coast Shotokan Karate - a registered club of Shotokan Karate International Australia a not-for-profit organisation directly afilited with the Shotokan Karate International Federation.

Shotokan Karate was introduced to Australia in the 1960s and the first national association established in 1971. At our dojo (the place where the path or way is pursued), we sometimes practice sport karate. However, the karate we teach is so much more than just a sport.

We teach Shotokan Karate which recognises that karate is budo and that sport or karate is just a part of that budo training. We retain traditional rituals of karate etiquette including respect, sincerity, courtesy and so on but, also integrate elements of contemporary physical exercise science in our practice of karate-do (The way of the empty hand). Our dojo is a place that inspires people towards mastery of this beautiful and alluring martial art. It is also a pathway to self-learning where we help your dreams become reality.
