Shotokan Week 2022 A Success

Published Fri 07 Oct 2022

Shotokan Week 2022 was held at the Sydney Boys High in Moore Park Sydney from 28 September to 1 October this year. It was the first annual training seminar to be held for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and was attended by over 165 SKIA members from around Australia. Dan grade examinations were also held and on Sunday 2 October the SKIA AUstralian Championships were also hosted with over 103 athletes competing for national titles and a place in the Australian Team to compete at the next SKIF World Championships. It was great to be able to gather again to train, socialise and compete again after such a long hiatus. Jay Hammond attended the seminar saying he enjoyed the sessions with Shihan Murakami and Hiyori Kanazawa Sensei very much. This was the second Shotokan Week that Jay has attended and he recomends that other members should also register and train so they can get the expereince of training with the Japanese Masters. Sensei David passed his Godan grading examination and also won his 6th national title in the Masters Dan Grade Individual Kata event. He hopes that more club members attend the annual seminar next time it is hosted in Sydney.
