Tournament Success in 2025

Published Fri 07 Nov 2025

Sensei David recently travelled to Canberra to compete in his third tournament for the year placing third in the 20th Australian Masters Games  karate and kobudo event held at Sensei Reece Cummings Mitchell Dojo.

For the first time karate and kobudo were part of the Games and in a first for Sensei David, he competed in the male dan grades over 50 years kata event against 18 other competitors from different karate styles.

The kata event was a double elimination style event meaning competitors had two chances to compete ensuring an interesting (and long) event.

As each competitor performed, the winners of each round advanced resulting in Sensei David placing third behind Richard Harrison and Oleg Sannikov all from NSW.

The cameraderie off the mats was very respectful and the competition fierce especially in the final rounds.

This tops off a successful year of competition for Sensei David after he secured his 16th State Title at the SKI QLD over 55 yrs male dan grade kata event in Rockhampton in early August.

He also won a 7th National Title, this time in masters kata event at the SKIA National Championships in Melbourne in early October.
